Sunbeams and Smiles

One winter's day I sat and thought ,

How dancing sunbeams might be caught ,

So that I might have sunny rays ,

To hold in store for cloudy days ,

And while I pondered dismally ,

A little maid climbed on my knee ,

Whose sunny locks and sweet blue eyes ,

seemed to be borrowed from the skies ,

Ah ! then the dark clouds rolled away ,

And my sad heart grew blythe and gay .

For when I saw that maiden fair ,

I knew I had my sunbeam there .
